Megan Hughes, BACP Registered Counsellor

Getting to know me

Hello — I'm Megan. I'm a BACP Registered Counsellor with a genuine passion for helping people find their way through difficult periods in life. I believe that feeling truly heard — without judgement — is one of the most powerful starting points for change. Whether you're carrying something you've never said out loud before, or simply feeling stuck and unsure why, I offer a space where you can begin to make sense of what's going on — at your own pace, in your own way.

I hold a degree in Psychology and a Postgraduate Level 7 Diploma in Counselling. Both have shaped the way I think about people: with curiosity, respect, and a deep commitment to understanding the whole person, not just the issue that first brought you through the door. My training has given me a strong foundation across different therapeutic approaches, but what drives my work is something simpler — a genuine interest in the people I sit with, and a belief that with the right support, meaningful change is possible for anyone.

My therapeutic approach

I use an integrative, relational approach — meaning I draw on several evidence-based therapies and adapt them to what works best for you specifically.

Person-Centred Therapy

At the heart of everything I do is a belief that you are the expert on your own life. Person-Centred therapy creates a non-judgemental space where you feel fully accepted and understood — and where that acceptance itself can be transformative.

Psychodynamic Therapy

This approach helps us explore how past experiences and relationships — including early ones — may be shaping your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Understanding these patterns can bring real insight and freedom.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT offers practical tools for identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and making concrete changes to how you respond to challenging situations. It's especially useful alongside deeper relational work.

A collaborative process

Sessions are not done to you — they're done with you. We'll review our work together regularly to make sure it remains relevant, useful, and responsive to where you are right now.
